ICOM Monday mit/with Phaedra Fang, ICOM NATHIST
Beim nächsten ICOM Monday begrüßen wir Phaedra Fang vom National Taiwan Museum. Sie ist Mitglied im ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History (NATHIST). Am 1. September 2025 gibt sie Einblicke in die Arbeit des Komitees, dem rund 400 Institutionen und Einzelpersonen aus aller Welt angehören. NATHIST unterstützt die Sammlung, Erhaltung, Erforschung und Interpretation biologischer, paläontologischer und geologischer Sammlungen sowie die wissenschaftliche Erforschung des weltweiten Naturerbes und der Naturräume.
Die Veranstaltung findet am 1. September 2025 von 12:30 bis 14:00 Uhr via Zoom in englischer Sprache statt. Wir bitten um Anmeldung.

At the next ICOM Monday, we are pleased to welcome Phaedra Fang from the National Taiwan Museum. She is a member of the ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History (NATHIST). On September 1, 2025, she will provide insights into the work of the committee, which includes around 400 institutions and individuals from around the world. NATHIST supports the collection, preservation, research, and interpretation of biological, paleontological, and geological collections, as well as the scientific exploration of the world’s natural heritage and environments.
Ms. FANG Hui-Shih (Phaedra) currently serves as Assistant Researcher in the Education Department at the National Taiwan Museum and Secretary of ICOM NATHIST. She holds a master’s degree in zoology from National Taiwan University, where she is also pursuing her Ph.D. in the International Program of Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Her research focuses on sustainability education, citizen science, and cultural revitalization methodologies in museum contexts. Ms. Fang has been an active member of ICOM NATHIST throughout her career. As Secretary, she has played a pivotal role in organizing the organization’s annual conferences, which bring together diverse perspectives on contemporary museum practices and natural history collections. Her museum work encompasses both educational programming and exhibition development. She leads the long-term International Docent Training Program, which engages young students in cultural preservation and historical interpretation. Notable among her curatorial projects is „Sustainable New Year’s Dinner Tables: Dining in the Anthropocene“ (2021, 2023), an exhibition exploring the festival foods of Taiwan’s diverse ethnic populations and promoting sustainable cultural practices. As a freelance translator, Ms. Fang collaborates with Dr. RAU E-Ping on popular science publications focusing on natural history and the Anthropocene. Their translation of „Never Home Alone: From Microbes to Millipedes, Camel Crickets, and Honeybees, the Natural History of Where We Live“ received first prize in the translation category of the 11th Wu Ta-Yu Science Publication Award, the highest honor for Mandarin Chinese popular science publications. Additional translations include „Delicious: The Evolution of Flavor and How It Made Us Human“ and „Dust: The Modern World in a Trillion Particles.“
