Gabriel Schimmeroth
Gabriel Schimmeroth ist Kurator, Historiker und Leiter der Veranstaltungsabteilung am Museum am Rothenbaum – Kulturen und Künste der Welt (MARKK) in Hamburg. Von 2018-2023 leitete er das MARKK in Motion Projekt im Rahmen der Initiative für ethnologische Sammlungen der Kulturstiftung des Bundes. Seit 2019 verantwortet er den experimentellen Ausstellung- und Veranstaltungsort Zwischenraum. Darüber hinaus kuratierte er zahlreiche Interventionen und Performances mit Künstler*innen wie Tuli Mekondjo, Satch Hoyt und Sujatro GhoshSeine kuratorischen Schwerpunkte reichen von globaler Stadtgeschichte und öffentlicher Infrastruktur bis zu den Verflechtungen von Museum, Archiv und Erinnerungspolitik mit zeitgenössischer Kunst.
Gabriel Schimmeroth is a curator and historian who serves as Head of Public Program at the Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK) in Hamburg. From 2018 to 2023, he was responsible for MARKK in Motion, a research and transformation project within the Initiative for Ethnological Collections of the German Federal Cultural Foundation. Since 2019, he has curated the Zwischenraum, an experimental space for exhibitions and public programs at the museum. He has curated numerous interventions and performances in collaboration with artists such as Tuli Mekondjo, Satch Hoyt, and Sujatro Ghosh. His curatorial practice engages with global urban histories, public infrastructures, and the intersections of the museum, archive, and memory politics with contemporary art.
