Isabel Monroy Moreno
Isabel Monroy Moreno arbeitet in den Kontaktpunkten von Kunst, Bildung und
Gesellschaft und leitet seit 2021 die Abteilung Kunstvermittlung am MUSEUM MMK
FÜR MODERNE KUNST in Frankfurt am Main. Zuvor war sie als Kunstvermittlerin u. a.
bei der Biennale di Venezia und der Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig tätig. Sie
entwickelt diskriminierungskritische, inklusive Formate und nutzt Leichte Sprache in
ihrer Arbeit als zentrales Werkzeug kultureller Teilhabe. Museen versteht sie als
soziale und politische Räume, in denen Machtverhältnisse hinterfragt, hegemoniale
Narrative irritiert und neues Wissen verhandelt werden können, um Teilhabe zu
ermöglichen.
Isabel Monroy Moreno works at the intersection of art, education, and society and
has been head of the Art Education at the MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST in
Frankfurt am Main since 2021. Previously, she worked as an art mediator at the
Biennale di Venezia and the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig. Her practice
follows anti-discriminatory, power-critical, and inclusive approaches and uses plain
language as a key tool for cultural participation. She understands museums as social
and political spaces in which power relations can be questioned, hegemonic
narratives challenged, and new knowledge negotiated in order to empower inclusion.

inklusiven Kunstvermittlung
In einer zunehmend polarisierten Welt sind Museen und ihre Vermittlungspraktiken
gefordert, ihre Strukturen zu hinterfragen und Räume zu schaffen, in denen
gesellschaftliche Machtverhältnisse aktiv verhandelt werden. Ausgehend von
inklusiven Vermittlungsformaten am MMK zeigt der Beitrag, wie Fürsorge, Empathie
und emotionale Resonanz tief in die Praxis eingewoben sind. In Momenten geteilter
Irritation, Verantwortung und angepasster Zeitlichkeit wird deutlich:
Kunstvermittlung ist mehr als Wissensvermittlung. Sie ist eine lernende Praxis des
Zuhörens, Mitfühlens und Handelns.
Was passiert, wenn wir die Lebensrealitäten unserer Umgebung anerkennen und uns
der Aufgabe stellen, Kunst als Werkzeug zu nutzen, um Barrieren zu überwinden und
ein empathisches Miteinander zu schaffen?
Am I Supposed to Be Here? – Emotional Agency and Care in Inclusive Art Education
In a world characterized by increasing polarizations, museums and their educational
practices are confronted with the necessity to critically engage with their own
structures and to establish spaces where social power relations are actively
negotiated. Drawing on inclusive educational formats at the MMK, this contribution
explores how care, empathy, and emotional resonance are deeply woven into
practice. Through moments of shared irritation, responsibility, and adjusted
temporality, it becomes evident that the role of art mediation extends beyond the
transfer of knowledge. It is an ongoing learning process involving listening, empathy,
and active engagement.
What happens when we acknowledge the realities of those around us and use art as
a tool to break down barriers and foster an empathetic community?
