As the new president of ICOM I am very happy to address a few words to the members of ICOM Germany.
National committees are the backbone of ICOM. Through them our members sign up, share projects and discuss the most important issues facing museums in the twenty-first century.
With its more than 7,300 members, ICOM Germany is the largest of our national committees and makes an important contribution to foster international exchange and cooperation and to support the evolution of museums in a changing society.
Thanks to a board of respected professionals, ICOM Germany is developing some of the main lines of ICOM's strategic plan, for example on sustainability.
With regard to this last theme, I am pleased to inform you that in August 2023 I participated in the G20 of culture in Varanase (India) where I had the honour of presenting ICOM programme. In the final declaration, ICOM is mentioned twice as one of the NGOs that best contribute to representing culture in the world.
In June 2024, following a decision of the Advisory council, we are going to meet in person. It will be a wonderful opportunity to know each other and to exchange ideas and opinions.
I conclude by expressing my gratitude to the President of ICOM Germany Felicia Sternfeld, to the Steering Committee and to the 7000 members of ICOM Germany for their engagement in ICOM.
